What Is Lightning Lane?
Lightning Lane is Disney World’s paid queue-skipping system. Most major rides have a separate Lightning Lane entrance next to the standard standby line. If you have a Lightning Lane booking, you use that entrance and typically wait under 15 minutes, regardless of how long the standby queue is.

How to Book Lightning Lane: Step by Step
Everything runs through the My Disney Experience app, available free on iOS and Android. Link your park tickets to your account before your trip. Do this at home, not in the queue at the gate.
Step 1: Open the app and tap the Lightning Bolt icon at the bottom of the screen.
Step 2: Select your park. If you have purchased Multi Pass, you will see available attractions with return time windows.

Magic Kingdom
The four rides that build long queues fastest are Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, TRON Lightcycle Run, Space Mountain, and Peter Pan’s Flight. Buy Seven Dwarfs as a Single Pass at 7 AM, then set your first Multi Pass for Peter Pan’s Flight at park opening (its return times fill quickest). Follow that with Space Mountain.
If you are arriving at rope drop, head straight to TRON on standby. The queue is at its shortest during the first 20 minutes. Then use your Single Pass for Seven Dwarfs in the afternoon when standby waits peak at 90+ minutes.
EPCOT
Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind consistently has the longest wait in the park and usually requires Single Pass or a very early arrival. Buy it at 7 AM because it sells out by 8 AM on peak days. Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure is worth a Single Pass on busy days but manageable on standby during quieter periods.
Multi Pass works well for Frozen Ever After and Test Track. Frozen builds a deceptively long queue even on moderate days, so make it one of your first Multi Pass bookings.
Hollywood Studios

Book your advance selections the moment the window opens. Set an alarm for 6:55 AM Eastern. Popular morning return times vanish fast, and getting an early slot for your first selection is what lets you stack rides throughout the rest of the day.
Always choose the earliest available return window. If Peter Pan shows a 9:00 AM slot and a 2:00 PM slot, take 9:00 AM. The faster you use your selections, the more you can book across the day.
Check back for cancellations. If a Single Pass for Guardians sold out at 8 AM, check again around 11 AM and 2 PM. Guests cancel and new inventory appears throughout the day. I have picked up sold-out Single Passes more than once just by checking periodically.
