Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge: Disney’s Most Convincingly Built Themed Land
What Galaxy’s Edge Actually Is
Galaxy’s Edge is a 14-acre land on the planet Batuu, themed entirely around Star Wars. It’s the most thoroughly built themed land Disney has put together. Every detail, from the shopkeeper costumes to the custom Coca-Cola bottles shaped like thermal detonators, reinforces the Star Wars world. There are two rides, multiple dining locations, and shops for custom merchandise. If you’re a Star Wars fan, this land is worth multiple hours. Even if you’re not a huge fan, the level of detail and atmosphere is impressive.
Rise of the Resistance: The Best Ride at Disney
Rise of the Resistance is a 18-minute attraction that combines dark ride storytelling with motion simulator technology and practical effects. You board a transport shuttle and engage in combat with First Order forces while rescuing Resistance members. The ride is thrilling and the story actually holds together for the full eighteen minutes. The technology is the most advanced Disney has implemented. Height restriction is 102 centimeters. Waits are always extreme because the ride has a relatively low capacity and is the best attraction at Disney World. You need rope drop or a Lightning Lane Single Pass to ride it with reasonable wait.
Millennium Falcon Smugglers Run
You pilot the Millennium Falcon in an interactive flying experience. Each person in your crew has a specific role: pilot, gunner, engineer. Your individual actions directly affect the outcome. Height restriction is 97 centimeters. The ride is less intense than Rise of the Resistance but more engaging because of the interactive elements. You can ride it multiple times and have completely different outcomes based on crew performance. It’s shorter than Rise (around 5 minutes of actual flight) but the technology is excellent.
Savi’s Workshop: Custom Lightsaber Building
Savi’s Workshop is a hands-on session where you build your own lightsaber with guidance from a Jedi-adjacent character. The experience costs $274.99 per lightsaber plus tax, according to Disney (checked 13 October 2026), and takes about 20 minutes. Your lightsaber works, lights up, and makes sounds. The building process is theatrical and engaging. It’s a crafted object built across about 20 minutes, not something you throw together. Kids love it. Adults get invested in it. It’s expensive but memorable.
Droid Depot: Build Your Own Droid
Similar to Savi’s Workshop, you assemble a custom droid from parts. The droid has motor functions and sounds. Cost is $129.99 plus tax, according to Disney (checked 13 October 2026). The experience takes 15-20 minutes. Your droid is functional and will work in your home. Disney highly recommends reservations for both Savi’s Workshop and Droid Depot, so book as soon as you’re confident about your park dates.
Dining in Galaxy’s Edge
Oga’s Cantina is a bar/lounge with Star Wars-themed drinks and a DJ. Disney highly recommends reservations, which open 60 days in advance. Docking Bay 7 serves quick-service food with Star Wars names (portions are huge). The Milk Stand serves blue and green milk, which tastes like a fruity cereal drink and is surprisingly good. It’s frozen and refreshing. Ronto Roasters is a kiosk known for the Ronto Wrap, a grilled sausage and roasted pork wrap.
Merchandise and Shopping
Every shop in Galaxy’s Edge sells Star Wars merchandise specific to Batuu. T-shirts, hats, souvenirs, all themed as authentic Batuu items rather than branded Disney products. The shopkeepers are in character and will stay in character during conversations. There’s no “Disney” branding. There’s no breaking character. The immersion is complete. If you’re a Star Wars fan, you’ll spend money. If you’re not, you’ll still be impressed by the theming.
The Atmosphere: Character and Detail
Galaxy’s Edge’s greatest strength is atmosphere. Cast members stay in character. The buildings look authentically worn and lived-in. The sound design includes Star Wars ships flying overhead. The music is John Williams’ Star Wars themes. Walking through Galaxy’s Edge feels like entering the Star Wars universe. Even visitors who are not Star Wars fans tend to be impressed by the immersion level.
May 2026 Mandalorian Update
On 22 May 2026, Millennium Falcon Smugglers Run gained a new mission with the Mandalorian and Grogu. The basic ride remains the same, but the theming and narrative will shift to include Mandalorian characters and story elements. Crews now choose between Bespin, the Death Star wreckage near Endor and Coruscant, according to Disney.
Galaxy’s Edge Strategy
Visit Galaxy’s Edge in the evening when the land is lit up and the atmosphere is strongest. Get rope drop for Rise of the Resistance, which is the priority. Return for Smugglers Run and shopping in the evening. If you want to build a lightsaber or droid, book the experience well in advance. Don’t skip dinner at Docking Bay 7 or drinks at Oga’s Cantina. The experience is as much about soaking in the atmosphere as it is about the rides.
