Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster opened in 1999 with an Aerosmith theme, ran for more than 26 years, and closed after 1 March 2026 for a complete overhaul. It reopened on 26 May 2026 as Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets, with a totally new pre-show, new music, and a new in-queue experience built around the Electric Mayhem band.
The track is the same. The launch is the same. Everything else is new.
If you’re trying to decide whether the new version is worth a Lightning Lane slot, here’s the breakdown.
The ride hardware was largely retained. The work was on theming, music, and the queue experience.
Aerosmith is out. The Electric Mayhem is in. The new ride soundtrack features:
Disney says each limo has an updated audio system.
The queue takes you through G-Force Records, a fictional rock-and-roll recording studio. The pre-show features the first-ever Audio-Animatronics figure of Scooter, built with motion-capture technology. Penguin audio engineers also appear as Audio-Animatronics. Kermit and Miss Piggy show up on screens.
The story: the Electric Mayhem are getting ready for a big concert, and you’re invited as VIP guests. The pre-show runs about 90 seconds before you board.
Muppet props, Electric Mayhem tour posters, and celebrity cameos throughout. Disney has hidden cameos in posters, props, and the merchandise shop. Worth scanning the walls if you’re not in a rush.
If you liked the original Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster with Aerosmith, you’ll like this. The ride experience is identical. The new soundtrack is more varied and the surround-sound speaker system in the trains is a real upgrade.
If you hated the Aerosmith music, this might actually convert you. The Muppets are a different vibe entirely.
If you’ve never been on it: this is one of the most intense coasters at Walt Disney World. The launch is genuinely fast. Three inversions in darkness, with music playing right in your ears, is overstimulating for some riders. Don’t ride if you’re prone to motion sickness or have a strong dislike of inversions.
Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets is included in Lightning Lane Multi Pass. It is not a Single Pass attraction.
The single rider line is usually shorter than standby, though your group will be split up.
Annual Passholders got preview access on 21, 22, and 23 May 2026, three days before the public opening on 26 May.
Both sit in Hollywood Studios. Our park guide covers the rest of the day, including Galaxy’s Edge.
26 May 2026. Annual Passholder previews ran on 21, 22 and 23 May.
Yes. Same launch, same three inversions, same indoor track, same 48-inch height requirement. Only the theming, music, queue and pre-show changed.
“Song 2” by The Electric Mayhem, “Born To Be Wild” featuring Camilla the Chicken, “Love Rollercoaster” with Jennifer Hudson and Questlove, “Rock! Rock! (Till You Drop)” with Def Leppard, and “Walking on Sunshine” with Kelly Clarkson, according to Disney.
48 inches (122cm). Same as the previous Aerosmith version.
Multi Pass. It is included in the standard Lightning Lane Multi Pass purchase, not a separate Single Pass.
About 90 seconds inside G-Force Records before you board the coaster.
