Disney World Ride Height Restrictions: Complete Imperial and Metric Guide (2026)

Few things ruin a Disney day faster than walking up to a ride with an excited child only to find out they are too short. Children convinced they are tall enough for everything get turned away at the ride entrance, and the meltdown can last longer than the queue would have.

Measure your children at home before the trip. Measure them in the shoes they will be wearing at the parks. Then check the tables below so everyone knows in advance which rides are on and which are off. Managing expectations before you arrive is far easier than dealing with disappointment at a ride entrance.

Disney measures children at each ride entrance using a height board. If your child is right on the borderline, the Cast Member’s measurement is final.

Magic Kingdom Height Requirements

Ride Minimum Height Thrill Level Status (2026)
TRON Lightcycle Run 122cm / 48in High Open
Space Mountain 112cm / 44in High Open
Big Thunder Mountain Railroad 97cm / 38in Moderate Open
Seven Dwarfs Mine Train 97cm / 38in Moderate Open
Tiana’s Bayou Adventure 102cm / 40in Moderate Open (closed 2 November to December 2026 for refurbishment)
The Barnstormer 89cm / 35in Low Open

No height restriction: Haunted Mansion, Pirates of the Caribbean, It’s a Small World, Peter Pan’s Flight, Jungle Cruise, Dumbo the Flying Elephant, Carousel of Progress (closed until late spring 2027), Tomorrowland Transit Authority PeopleMover, Under the Sea: Journey of the Little Mermaid, The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh. Tomorrowland Speedway does have one, at 81cm / 32in.

Magic Kingdom has the most rides with no height restriction of any park, which makes it the best choice for families with very young children. A 3-year-old can have a full day of rides here without being turned away once.

EPCOT Height Requirements

Ride Minimum Height Thrill Level Status (2026)
Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind 107cm / 42in High Open
Mission: SPACE (Orange) 112cm / 44in High Open
Mission: SPACE (Green) 102cm / 40in Low Open
Test Track 102cm / 40in Moderate Open
Soarin’ Across America 102cm / 40in Low-Moderate Open

No height restriction: Frozen Ever After, Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure, Living with the Land, The Seas with Nemo and Friends, Journey Into Imagination with Figment, Gran Fiesta Tour, Spaceship Earth, Moana: Journey of Water.

EPCOT’s tallest height requirement is Mission: SPACE (Orange) at 112cm (44in). The tallest in Disney World are TRON Lightcycle / Run and Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster at 122cm (48in). Children who ride Seven Dwarfs Mine Train at Magic Kingdom might still be 25cm short of this one, so set expectations early. The World Showcase side of EPCOT is height-restriction-free and has plenty to keep younger children engaged.

Hollywood Studios Height Requirements

Ride Minimum Height Thrill Level Status (2026)
Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets 122cm / 48in High Open
Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance 102cm / 40in Moderate Open
Twilight Zone Tower of Terror 102cm / 40in High Open
Star Tours: The Adventures Continue 102cm / 40in Moderate Open
Slinky Dog Dash 97cm / 38in Moderate Open
Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run 97cm / 38in Moderate Open

No height restriction: Toy Story Mania!, Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway, Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular, Disney Jr. Mickey Mouse Clubhouse Live!. Alien Swirling Saucers does have one, at 81cm / 32in.

Hollywood Studios is the trickiest park for families with shorter children. Many of the headline rides sit at 97cm to 102cm minimums, and Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster needs 122cm. If your child is under 97cm, Toy Story Mania, Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway and Alien Swirling Saucers are the main ride options, supplemented by the shows and character meet-and-greets.

Animal Kingdom Height Requirements

Ride Minimum Height Thrill Level Status (2026)
Avatar: Flight of Passage 112cm / 44in High Open
Expedition Everest 112cm / 44in High Open
Kali River Rapids 97cm / 38in Moderate Open

No height restriction: Kilimanjaro Safaris, Na’vi River Journey, Zootopia: Better Zoogether!

Note that DINOSAUR closed for good on 2 February 2026 and is no longer available. Animal Kingdom has fewer rides overall, but Kilimanjaro Safaris has no height restriction and is one of the best experiences at Disney World for any age. Even a 3-year-old is captivated by the animals.

Tips for Families With Children Near the Height Limits

Measure at home in park shoes. The shoes your child wears to the park make a difference. A pair of trainers with a slightly thicker sole can add a centimetre that matters. Measure at home in those shoes and you will know where you stand.

Do not try to cheat the measurement. Some parents put insoles in their child’s shoes or style hair to add height. Cast Members see this every day and will measure accurately regardless. Getting caught is embarrassing, and more importantly, the height restrictions exist for safety reasons. If your child does not meet the requirement, they do not meet the requirement.

Use Rider Switch. If one child is too short but the rest of the family wants to ride, Rider Switch lets one adult wait with the shorter child while the others ride. Then the adults swap without anyone having to queue again. It is available at most rides with height restrictions and Cast Members will set it up at the ride entrance.

Celebrate the milestones. Clearing 97cm and finally riding Seven Dwarfs Mine Train is a genuine milestone for a lot of children. Building up to these moments makes them memorable rather than just another ride.

Height is only half the picture. See also what works when you are travelling with toddlers, and the rides that suit children with additional needs.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Disney measure children with or without shoes?

Disney measures children in the shoes they are wearing. If your child is borderline, the shoes they wear to the park matter. Measure at home in the same shoes to avoid surprises at the ride entrance.

What is the tallest height requirement at Disney World?

TRON Lightcycle / Run at Magic Kingdom and Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster at Hollywood Studios both require a minimum of 122cm (48 inches), the tallest requirement across all four parks.

What rides can a 3-year-old go on at Disney World?

Most 3-year-olds are around 90 to 100cm tall. At that height, they can ride everything with no height restriction (including It’s a Small World, Pirates of the Caribbean, Haunted Mansion, Kilimanjaro Safaris, Toy Story Mania, and many more) plus Tomorrowland Speedway and Alien Swirling Saucers (both 81cm), and The Barnstormer at Magic Kingdom if they reach 89cm. Magic Kingdom has the most options for this age group.

What is Rider Switch and how does it work?

Rider Switch is a free service for groups where one member cannot ride (usually due to height). One adult waits with the non-rider while the rest of the group rides. Then the waiting adult swaps in and rides without re-queuing. Tell the Cast Member at the ride entrance that you need Rider Switch before joining the queue.

Are Disney World height requirements in inches or centimetres?

Disney posts requirements in both inches and centimetres at each ride entrance. The official measurements use inches (as the parks are in the US), but centimetre equivalents are displayed alongside. This guide includes both for convenience.
